Capes are so popular for fall that Gigi Hadid’s white caped coat made the top 3 most trending stories on Facebook this weekend, much to people’s chagrin. Anytime I wear a cape I get five compliments for every Lord of the Rings or pilgrim comparison. Capes are probably the most controversial outwear, and that’s precisely why they’re a statement piece. If something is boring and no one has an opinion on it, then it’s not fashion (thankfully normcore went out of style). Wearing a cape says, “I don’t care if I’m cold and can’t wear my purse on my shoulders, I’m going to take after superheroes and Audrey Hepburn.” I bought this cape at Zara earlier this month and love how the flowy silhouette contrasts with over the knee boots. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’m obsessed with these Stuart Weitzman over the knee boots in Topo. The color is casual enough for daytime (I wore them to the farmers market yesterday) and versatile enough to complement any outfit.
