You know what they say, August is the Sunday of summer (how depressing), but before reaching for the cozy chic trends lined up for fall and winter, we should take a moment to appreciate what pre-fall has to offer. Yes, pre-fall. That interim fashion season Anna Wintour swears is responsible for 80% of retail sales and is best worn for the months of August and September before temperatures drop dramatically. Think long-sleeved maxi dresses, full midi skirts, plaid, and – my new favorite – belted statement scarves. I’ve worn scarves as shawls in the past, but it never occurred to me to wear them with a belt. Thanks to the Burberry Fall 2014 show, belted scarves are now as much a trend as Phoebe Philo’s resurrection of Birkenstocks. Here’s why the belted scarf works: you can effortlessly layer it for those cool breezy nights without having to resort to your polar vortex drawer. And oddly enough, there’s something summery about wearing a flowing scarf, just make sure you go for lightweight fabrics. Aside from the Burberry show, I haven’t really seen this trend yet on any fashion blogs or retail sites, so stay tuned for an #OOTD from yours truly. For now, what do you think of the look? Yay or nay?
