Remember my post a few months back on petite style myths? One of those myths states that petites should avoid anything with a mid-calf length (whaaaat?!). It’s a good thing neither I nor other fashion bloggers abide by such shortsighted rules, because if we did, we’d be missing out on some great clothes, like this cobalt midi dress from Topshop.
Here’s the great thing about midi dresses: they’re not long enough that you have to worry about fabric trailing on the ground (a legitimate concern if you live in any major city), yet they are long enough to transition from summer to fall. And if you’re anything like me, the last part is a major win if you primarily look for staples that easily transition through the seasons.
What initially appealed to me about the dress was the bright color, which looks a lot like the backdrop from Kenzo’s fall campaign. For a simple summer weekend look I paired the dress with simple accessories, a quilted crossbody and leopard flats. For fall I imagine I’ll layer a bright purple or pink statement coat or black moto jacket and finish the look with ankle boots. I personally think this dress would be more fun to wear in the fall. What do you think?
Get the look: Topshop midi dress; Steve Madden leopard print flats; Rebecca Minkoff crossbody.
