Finding the perfect coat when you’re petite is almost as hard as finding the perfect jeans or the . If you’re lucky enough to find the one – the coat that doesn’t hang loosely on your shoulders, enveloping your hands and losing your form in a slew of fabric, then you know it’s a keeper. That’s why it’s no understatement when I say that the two coats I wore this past weekend from The Petite Shop were the ones (hey, we never claimed to be monogamous with our clothing).
Since it’s been consistently below freezing for the past week here in the Northeast with several inches of snow accumulating on the weekend, I took the opportunity to wear the ones. Of course, the Florida girl in me was elated by the snow, though I imagine everyone else who has lived here all their lives didn’t share my sentiment that this was a magical winter wonderland. Back to la petit coats.
First up is a funnel neck cropped pea coat by Kenneth Cole in a mustard wool blend (courtesy of The Petite Shop). Can I just say, I love the vintage vibe of this coat – the shape, the color, the oversized buttons, it’s gorgeous. Moreover, funnel necks, which were all the rage on the fall 2013 runways, are infinitely cooler than turtlenecks. Though it’s cropped, I felt relatively warm in 16-degree weather (it probably helped that I was wearing a heavy sweater underneath). I paired the coat with over-the-knee boots from H&M, which are surprisingly weatherproof. If you remember from my post on OTK boots, I’m a huge fan of the look because it gives the illusion of longer legs. What do you think, do my legs look longer? Be honest!
The other coat is a petite biker leather jacket by Kenneth Cole in cocoa, courtesy of The Petite Shop. This coat looks similar to my leather moto jacket but is a thousand times warmer not to mention, impeccably fitted. This coat also looks a bit vintage; it reminds me of the Greenwich Village street style scene in the ’80s. I paired this coat similarly to the previous one with hat, gloves, and OTK boots from H&M, Rich & Skinny printed jeans, and FELINE sweatshirt.
