Live vicariously by opening my Birchbox
Ok, admittedly, I knew what was going to be in my Birchbox before I opened it, having looked at my box online last weekend (I couldn’t resist!). Here’s a closeup of the goodies from this month:
And now a review of the samples – with ratings!
Dr. Jart+ Premium BB Cream SPF 45+: 5/5. One of my favorite BB creams, I have loved Dr. Jart+ BB creams since before receiving the sample (Birchbox knows what I like!). This cream doubles as a firming treatment and primer; it airbrushes imperfections, evens skin tone, and protects skin from aging. Another reason to love this cream? It’s sulfate-free. Love.
Jasmine Seven Fresh Feet Wipes: 5/5. If you’ve ever walked around a major city in the summer wearing open-toed shoes, you’ll understand why these towelettes come in handy. They’re alcohol-free (yes!), contain vitamin E, peppermint, and aloe, and can double as hand wipes. Each towelette is large enough to thoroughly remove dirt with a single-use, leaving your feet or hands refreshed. Although this is a great product, I can’t see myself investing in foot wipes any time soon.
ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick (Kitty): 5/5. This is my third lipstick sample from Birchbox in less than 4 months and I’ve loved each one. This soft pink mauve shade, dubbed Kitty, from ModelCo’s neutral collection is long-lasting, moisturizing, and makes my lips appear fuller. The rich hue is flattering for my cool undertones and can transition from summer to fall. It also has a sweet, strawberry scent (yum!).
Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect: 2/5. Having recently run out of my last leave-in conditioner sample, Beauty Protector’s Protect & Detangle from May’s Birchbox, I was excited to try Number 4 Prep & Protect. Nonetheless, I was skeptical about whether it would live up to my beloved Beauty Protector – and my intuition was correct. Although Number 4 detangled my hair as promised, it doesn’t provide the shine and luster (not to mention the magical scent!) that makes Beauty Protector a favorite. I used Number 4 prior to heat styling and noticed it left my hair flatter and frizzier.
Miss Jessie’s Super Sudsy Shampoo: 1/5. As a fan of Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls, I expected more from this shampoo and was utterly let down. The shampoo, geared to curly hair, did anything but detangle and conquer dryness. Because I have color-treated hair that is prone to damage and dryness from heat styling, I am very particular about shampoos, choosing only those that are sulfate-free. Unfortunately, the Super Sudsy Shampoo contains sulfates, which may explain why it was drying. Because I love the brand and adore Pillow Soft Curls, I would still like to try other products from Miss Jessie’s, but I can’t recommend the Super Sudsy Shampoo.
Generally, this was a somewhat polarizing box. My favorite samples as you can guess are the ModelCo lipstick and Dr. Jart+ BB Cream. Like other Birchbox subscribers, I’m not immune to Birchbox envy (I still wish I had received InStain Blush or TanTowels!). Share what brag-worthy samples you received this month in the comments.
