Whether it’s Cara Delevingne’s eyebrows or Brigitte Bardot’s bangs, we look to celebrities for beauty inspiration sometimes even going so far as to imitate their looks. Kate Middleton is no exception; her hair is the new “Rachel hair.” As someone who’s notorious for always straightening my curly locks (we all want what we can’t have, right?), even preferring heat-styled curls over my naturally curly locks, I was eager to try the royal hairstyle. Kate’s hair is a happy medium between straight and curly. If you already have curling hair, you need not worry about using rollers or a curly iron (lucky you!). All it takes is a quick, vertical twirl of a round brush to get the look.
Here’s how to get the look if you already have curly hair:
Step 1: Wash your hair with a sulfate-free shampoo; I like L’Oreal’s sulfate-free line – it’s gentle and doesn’t dry out my hair.
Step 2: After rinsing, follow up with a deep conditioner for moisture. Remember, curly hair always needs moisture – it can never have too much! I find that conditioners that contain argan oil or coconut oil work best.
Step 3: Before combing, I use Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle spray, a heat protector sample I got in most recent Birchbox. The spray effectively detangles hair, making it easier to comb. It also smells heavenly!
Step 4: Use Blow Pro’s Texturizing Mist for a naturally tousled look. Although the reviews were so-so, I found that it really did give my hair added fullness and volume. However, be sure not to use too much as it can get sticky.
Step 5: Begin blowdrying. Using a round brush, blow dry straight until nearly reaching the bottom of the curl. Twist hair vertically using a round brush to achieve a spiral look. Curl with finger to add definition.
Step 6: Follow up with a straightening iron if necessary to straighten the roots. Do not use the straightening iron on your ends.
Step 7: When finished, use a serum to add shine. I like Nourishing Coconut Milk from Organix and L’Oreal’s EverSleek Argan Oil Treatment.
