Since getting bleached blonde highlights a couple of months ago, I’ve made a habit of deep conditioning my moisture-hungry locks twice a week. My hair routine usually consists of a pre-shampoo mask of olive oil, 1-2 eggs, and honey; a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner; followed by a deep conditioning treatment. Having used Ojon conditioning samples in the past (thanks, Sephora!), I was elated when I received in my April Birchbox. I recently finished the sample and here’s what I’ve concluded: like most deep conditioners, this one works best if your hair is in relatively healthy shape. If your hair has split-ends (like mine did up until a 2 weeks ago), deep conditioning is futile until you get a haircut. That said, it won’t reverse damage from coloring or heat styling. However, once the damage is snipped off by an expert hair-stylist then you’ll start to see some results. Note: I’m the last person who will agree to get a haircut, but sometimes it’s necessary to salvage your hair.
After shampooing, I lathered the conditioner and kept it on for about 7 minutes. After rinsing, I allowed my hair to air-dry, used a coconut oil serum and Beauty Protector – another treat from Birchbox – before blowdrying my hair. My hair felt more manageable, fuller, and softer after using Ojon since ridding my hair of split-ends. My ends looked nourished and my hair didn’t feel weighted down.
