When I first moved to New York in January 2007 to start college at The New School, I brought along a pastel pink leather jacket as one of my winter essentials. Far from dainty, the jacket made me feel fierce and ready to take on the City. While I don’t really wear it anymore (it’s hanging in my closet as we speak), it serves as a distinct reminder of that period of my life filled with optimism and ambition. You can imagine how nostalgic I felt, then, when I saw pink coats trending this season. Finally, designers are embracing pink and giving it the appreciation it deserves. British Vogue, in particular, featured tomboy supermodel, Cara Delevingne, in various pink coats from Simon Rocha, Miu Miu, and Marc Jacobs. It’s interesting to note that pink was originally considered a , and therefore more appropriate for boys than girls. So if you ever feel that pink is too dainty, just remember that color, like most things, is socially constructed and our dear pink was almost given to the boys!
Though pink coats and jackets are still hard to find (I found mine at a quaint boutique in New Hope), I managed to find a few favorites online, some which might break your wallet, and others that are more wallet-friendly. Read on.
